What is the Try-Before-You-Buy Program?
Left Hand Robotics is offering you the opportunity to try the RT-1000 robotic tractor with mowing deck on your own sites starting in spring 2019. If you like the product, you would then choose to purchase it at the end of your trial period. Otherwise, you would return all the equipment at the end of your trial period. Sign-up for the program.
How does the program work?
First, you will need to sign up via our web site at www.lefthandrobotics.com/try-buy. As part of the process, you will register yourself and your company/organization. Then you will be asked for a $2000 deposit. Once your deposit has been received, you will be placed on the list – in the order we receive your deposit – to receive all the equipment you need to try out the mowing robot. As soon as the equipment is ready to ship to you, we will send you a notification that the equipment is on its way (and the first half of the program fees will be charged).
Once you receive the equipment, you will be able to set up and use all the equipment following our online documentation. This program gives you everything you need to try out the product in a number of different scenarios. At any time during your trial, you can choose to withdraw by either purchasing the equipment or by returning the equipment to Left Hand Robotics. If you choose to purchase, all money paid to that point is credited towards the full purchase price. If you choose not to purchase, then upon receipt of the equipment by Left Hand Robotics, your deposit will be returned.
What do I get?
The program allows you to try one robot. We will send you the equivalent of our Robotic Mowing Starter Kit which includes: a RT-1000 robot, a 63” wide mowing deck, an area collection tool, and a GPS base station. You will also get our Gold level software subscription throughout the term of your trial including certain levels of email and telephone support (see the description of our Gold level support).
What does it cost?
Upon sign up, you will be charged $2,000 for the deposit. There is then a fixed cost of $4,995 (the “program fee”) to participate in the program. The deposit will either be refunded if you choose to return the equipment OR the deposit will go towards the purchase of the equipment.
Once you receive the equipment, you will be charged the first half of the program fee. After 30 days, you will automatically be charged for the balance of the program fee. The program fee is not refundable. You are also responsible for all costs related to shipping the equipment to you and taxes. If you choose to return the equipment, there is no additional shipping charge.
*Left Hand Robotics reserves the right to reduce the amount of the refunded deposit to cover any costs associated with damage to the machine or other repairs necessary that were not due to normal wear and tear and that occurred due to the operator not using the product in the documented way.
When does the program end?
You will have 60 days (the “trial period”) to try the mowing robot. At the end of the trial period, you then have 15 days (the “decision period”) to either purchase the equipment or initiate the return of the equipment.
What happens when I exit the program?
You can choose to withdraw from the trial at any time before your trial period ends. From the date of your withdrawal, you will have 15 days to either exercise your option to purchase the equipment or to return it to us. Note that if you withdraw before the first 30 days of your trial period, you will immediately be charged the balance of the program fee at the time we are notified of your decision to withdraw. You can choose to withdraw early via the Left Hand Robotics Robot Operations Center website.
What if I want to keep the equipment?
At the end of your trial period, you can decide to keep the equipment. At that time, you would pay Left Hand Robotics the price of the equipment minus all money that you have spent on the program to date: the deposit plus the program fee. The price of the equipment will be the price of the Robotic Mower Starter Kit (plus any applicable taxes) that was publicly listed on our website at the time we received your initial program deposit. Any additional equipment that you keep that is not included in the Starter Kit (e.g., cell modems, etc.) are added to the overall purchase price.
You can choose to return the additional equipment that is not included in the Starter Kit. You will also be charged the annual subscription fee for our Gold level support (you can choose to change this level). You will not be responsible for the cost to return any equipment you choose not to keep if you are purchasing the product.
What if I want to return the equipment?
You can decide you do not want to keep any of the equipment. In that event, you would be responsible for packing up the equipment into its original containers and packaging and then notifying Left Hand Robotics that it is ready to be returned – we will then schedule a carrier to pick up the equipment. Once we verify receipt and inspect for damage outside of normal wear and tear, we will refund your deposit. Left Hand Robotics will cover the cost of returning the equipment in this case.
What methods of payment can I use for the program?
As part of the signup process, you can pay by credit card.* We will use your chosen method of payment to automatically charge you for the monthly fees once you receive your equipment. Note that the deposit is charged immediately at program signup and is required in order to secure your position in the program. Shipping and taxes will also automatically be charged to your chosen method of payment.

How many robots can I try?
Each customer is limited to only one Starter Kit which includes one RT-1000 robot, one 63” mowing deck front attachment, one area collection tool and one GPS base station.
What happens if I withdraw before the end of my trial period?
The program fee is non-refundable. If you withdraw prior to the first 30 days, you will be immediately charged for the balance of the program fee upon notification to Left Hand Robotics of your decision to withdraw.
Once you withdraw, the robot will no longer run any programs. You will only be able to drive it for the purposes of packaging it for shipment back to Left Hand Robotics.
What support will I get?
The Left Hand Robotics teams wants to ensure that you have a positive and successful experience with our product. We will provide online documentation and training materials. We also include email and phone support. Note that since our products are connected to our Robot Operations Center, we are able to fix most non-hardware related issues over the air.
Why should I join this program?
This program allows you to try out a state-of-the-art mowing robot on your own sites at a very low cost. As a member of this program, if you decide you want to purchase the machine, we will also offer extended financing options (see below). And if you decide the robot is not for you, you can return it.
Are there any limitations in what the robot can do?
The robot is still evolving – and will for a very long time to come. Therefore, there will be some tasks and routes that the robot will not yet be able to perform that it will eventually be able to handle. All of these improvements come via additions and enhancements in our software. As long as you maintain the subscription on the robot, you will automatically get all new improvements and bug fixes.
Capabilities and limitations will be evolving over time and is provided via over-the-air upgrades to the software on the robot. Specific information about capabilities and limitations is available upon request to ensure you have the most up-to-date details. For example, the robot will initially only mow open fields (i.e., with no internal permanent obstacles). For more details, go to Mower Usage Restrictions.
Are there restrictions on where the robot can go?
The robot needs two inputs in order to successfully follow the paths you want: a good GPS signal and a good cellular signal. A good GPS signal is achieved by having a decently unobstructed view of the sky. The robot may have trouble near tall surrounding walls, and under heavy tree canopies as examples. Basically, anywhere the robot cannot see most of the sky will be challenging (note that this is an example of something we continue to improve).
Cellular signals are used to communicate status information with our Robot Operations Center (ROC) in the cloud. This connection is also used to refine the GPS data we receive on the robot. While the robot can travel for short distances without a cell signal, it will eventually stop if it does not re-establish contact with the ROC. What is the benefit of signing up soon?
As soon as we receive your program deposit, you will be placed in line to get the next available robot when it is ready. Additionally, the price you would pay to purchase the equipment will be locked in based on the publicly posted prices at the time the program deposit is received. This will likely represent a discount over the price for the same equipment later on. Not to mention bragging rights that you have one of the first commercial-class mowing robots in the world!
What if I just want to skip the program and purchase the mower?
Great! In that case, you will receive priority on getting the next available product when it is ready. You will want to visit our quote generation page at http://roc.lefthandrobotics.com/quote to initiate the process.
Do I need insurance?
Yes, you will need to add Left Hand Robotics as an Additional Insured and provide us proof of insurance before we can ship you the products. You will need coverage for a minimum of $500,000 General Liability and $50,000 Personal Property. A copy of the Certificate of Insurance can be provided at the time we contact you to let you know that your product is about to ship.
What happens if the equipment breaks?
Depending on what exactly breaks, we will either remotely instruct you on how to fix the problem, send you replacement parts, or some combination of the two. We may ask you to send us pictures and/or other documentation to describe the malfunction and how it happened in our efforts to diagnose and fix the problem. At our cost and discretion, we may also choose to send a technician from Left Hand Robotics to your site to make the fix.
If we, in our sole discretion, decide that the problem cannot be fixed in the field, we will, at our expense, have you ship the broken equipment back to us and then we will send you a replacement. If that happens, we will extend your trial for each day that you were unable to use the product. In this particular case, you can also choose to withdraw from the program and receive a prorated refund of your program fee.
Do you offer an extended payment plan if I choose to purchase the equipment?
As part of this program, if you choose to purchase the equipment, we will offer, subject to certain restrictions, a 12-month extended payment plan. This plan will allow you to pay off the balance of the hardware (i.e., the Robotic Mower Starter Kit plus any additional equipment) over 12 months.
Note that the software subscription is not included in the plan and must be paid in full at the time of the purchase. Details about this financing option will be made available soon. This offer may not be available to all customers – certain restrictions apply.
